Stephen R. Shaw

Stephen R. Shaw, 81, of Warren, PA, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA.

Steve was born September 17, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Alexander Schulsky and Anne Saranik Schulsky. He graduated high school in The Bronx, NY, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University. He was a writer and journalist and was published in several newspapers and won several awards for his work.

Steve enjoyed going to the Y.M.C.A. He was especially connected to his classmates of the Balance and Core class and their teacher, Kay Hughes.

Steve was able to achieve his lifetime goal of playing the piano thanks to his teacher, Deena Winters.

Steve was an ardent supporter of his wife’s education and literacy work and the non-profit she founded and directed, Free Books for Kids Town. He provided for his family as well as doing many household jobs so she could focus on her work.

Steve is survived by his wife, Ruby M. Wiles, whom he married in October 1996; son, Grady T. Wiles-Shaw of Warren; cousin, Ilene Snell of Highland Park, FL; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Friends will be received at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc, 1003 Penna Ave. E., Warren, PA, on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 10:00am to 11:00am, at which time a service will be held with Reverend Nancy Schwanke, pastor, Interfaith Chapel, North Warren, officiating.

A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11:00am St. John Lutheran Church, 200 Pleasant Dr., Warren, PA.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
