Betty Jane Darling

Betty Jane Darling, 83, of Youngsville, PA, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie.

She was born in October of 1940, a daughter to the late Russell and Myrtle (Rummell) Luther, “Big Betty” as she was affectionately known to some, was always busy and on the move. She graduated from Youngsville High School, where she was a majorette and played the accordion. It was there that Betty met her future husband, Ronald Darling, and in October of 1957, they were married and began their family. Betty was always busy and active. She played softball for many years for Millies Inn, and was involved in the Youngsville Ladies Bowling League for over 50 years. She worked at the New Process Co., which later on became the Blair Corp., as an order filling supervisor for 30 years. She loved to cook, bake, and can from her Garden, and she was well known for her her hot dill pickles. Betty loved spending time with her family and friends, and her Monday lunches with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty leaves behind her daughter, Cindy and Joe Saber of Irvine; her grandchildren, Chad Johnson of Youngsville and his companion Karen Ohl, Katie and Chris Murphy of Youngsville and Rickel and Scott Stearns of Sugar Grove; her great grandchildren, Collin, Paige, Kaeli, Sawyer, Cole, Paiden, Slade, and Rylan and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; her son, Rick Darling; her great-grandson, Maverick Stearns and her brothers, Russell Luther Jr., John Luther and Gene Luther.

Friends and family will be received at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St., Youngsville, PA, 16371, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 3-6pm at which time a funeral service will take place there. Burial will be private in Warren County Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made in Betty’s name to the Shiners Children Hospital, 1645 W. Eighth St., Erie, PA 16505 or the Youngsville VFD, 29 Fireman Drive, Youngsville, PA 16371.
