Norma Ruth Dey

Norma Ruth Dey, 79, of Youngsville, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital.

She was born in Erie, PA on February 11, 1945. She was the daughter of Rev. Clarence and Vivian Baldwin. Norma graduated from the Sharon High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

She returned to Warren in 1967 to begin her teaching career at Lacy Elementary School and retired from Pleasant Elementary School. It meant a great deal to her to encounter former students and to hear of their accomplishments.

In 1979 Norma married LaVoyce Dey at Wesley Woods, Grand Valley, PA. They shared an interest in travel to the different states and enjoyed annual trips to Myrtle Beach as well as trips to Hawaii, Alaska, and the Canadian Rockies. They especially enjoyed the natural beauty of the Buckaloons park nearby.

Norma was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Blue Stocking Club and College Club. She served on many different committees of the Youngsville First United Methodist Church. After ringing with the Grace Handbell Choir in Warren, she later directed a hand bell choir in Youngsville that consisted of members of various churches in the Brokenstraw Valley. Norma was also active in supporting the Brokenstraw Adult Activity Center at the church.

In her free time, she enjoyed outings with the Lunch Bunch, gardening, crafts, and she appreciated the mysteries of nature and the different seasons of the year.

Norma is survived by her husband, LaVoyce “Dag” Dey, her stepdaughter, Yvonne K. Robbins and her husband, Rocky, of Pittsfield, her brother, Bruce Baldwin and his wife, Weeta, of Loganville, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents and her mother-in-law, Frances Dey.
