Troy William Martin

Troy William Martin, 80, of Canonsburg passed on Friday, September 6, 2024 in Pittsburgh’s Allegheny General Hospital.

He was born on March 26, 1944 in Warren, PA and lived his early years in Kinzua, PA (now Kinzua Dam/Allegheny Reservoir). He was preceded in death by his parents Troy Walter and Vera B. Martin (Eschenbach), and brothers Gary and Douglas.

Troy graduated from Warren High School (1962) and Edinboro University (1966) with a B.S. degree in Art Education. He wrestled for both schools and was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.

He had many passions: golfing, fishing, hunting, gardening, reading, traveling, and playing and coaching sports. His personality was always optimistic, sociable, humorous, positive, and kind which captivated listeners through his conversations and stories.

He coached track, wrestling and football for three PA school districts: Eisenhower (Warren), ChiChester (Philadelphia) and Trinity (Washington). He also coached youth soccer. He taught hand pottery wheel ceramics, painting, and centrifuge jewelry. Troy also was part-owner of the Meadow Inn and sole-owner of the Timberwood Grille & Pub restaurants of Meadowlands, PA.

On August 4, 1973 Troy married the love of his life, Andrea Lauricia, who survives. Their love for each other was unwavering for 51 years. They were always newlyweds at heart. They met in grad school, but also unknowingly when she was a freshman and he a junior.

Troy was a former member of the Freemasons. He was a cubmaster and scoutmaster for troop 1373 (Hill Church) and scoutmaster for troop 1305 (United Presbyterian). He also was on the Boy Scout local National Leader Council for Wood Badge.

Troy is survived by his sons Cory of Boston, MA, Vance (Young) of Austin, TX, and Amy of Canonsburg; sisters Rebecca Volow (wife of the late Michael Volow) of Durham, NC, Nancy Rydholm (wife of the late Manny Rydholm) of Newburgh, IN, Judy (Richard) Lipsey of Kersey, PA, brother Timothy (Mary) of Chester, PA; sister in law, Linda Martin of Bradford, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitors will be received on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024 4-7 pm at Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, 30 East College Street Canonsburg, PA, 15317, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000. Burial is private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
