Molly Anne Masterson

Molly Anne Masterson

Molly Anne Masterson, 68, of Warren, PA, passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, after fighting pulmonary disease for the past few years. Born Nov. 19,1955, in Warren, PA, the daughter of the late Jeanne (Sadler) Masterson and Richard Masterson, she graduated from Warren Area High School in 1973, and worked a brief time at the New Process Company (Blair), and later was part of the wait staff at several different restaurants around the area, including the Allegheny Hotel, Conewango Club, and Bellevue East (Falconer, NY).

In the early 80’s, she lived in Barnes, PA, where she wrote a humor piece for a local news outlet and started a children’s theater group, giving her two small boys and their friends a way to explore their creativity.

Unquestionably, Molly’s superpower was her sense of humor. No one was a match for her quick wit and clever observations. In a world thirsty for laughter, she will be sadly missed.

Molly’s pastimes included baking, handcrafts and thrift-store treasure hunting, and she loved to read. She also took great pleasure in growing things. Molly could turn virtually any patch of ground into a flourishing vegetable garden, flanked by trellises and pots of blooming flowers. Watching the miracle of a seed turning into something wondrous gave her great joy.

She was so proud of her two boys, who grew into remarkable young men. While they didn’t live nearby, she cherished news about their lives and boasted about every one of their accomplishments to friends.

Her extended family were the many cats that she and her partner welcomed through the years. Some were strays, others were rescues, but all were special, loved and spoiled.

There are many examples of her acts of kindness. A stand out is the friendship she cultivated with an elderly neighbor. She knew he lived alone and would drop in on him now and again, often bringing something she just harvested from the garden. He had apple trees in his yard and when they ripened, he would call her over to fill a basket. She would do just that, then head home to make a pie from scratch, that she delivered to her friend the very next day.

Thoughtful, vulnerable, funny and fierce, her spirit and formidability will be missed by all who hold her up in love.

Molly is survived by her partner of over 40 years, Charles Blackman; two sons, Joshua (Katherine) Tonnissen of Aptos, CA, and Zacharey (Sandra Lory) Tonnissen of Orange, VT; a brother Edward (Sharon) Masterson of Warren, PA; a sister, Shannon Masterson (Kevin) Kendrick of Rock Island, TN; a grandson Adric Tonnissen, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved pets, Marmalade and Gristle.

No services are planned at this time, however, a “Celebration of Life” will be held at a future date.

If you wish to honor Molly’s memory, the family asks that you consider donating food, your time, or money to an animal shelter of your choice. Or, if you have a neighbor who might be in need of some company, you’re invited to bake a pie and then drop by.
