Margaret Elizabeth (Lindsey) Himes
Margaret Elizabeth (Lindsey) Himes, previously of 2140 Dunn’s Eddy Road, Youngsville, PA, passed away on November 12, 2024, at Sugar Creek Care Center, Franklin, PA.
Born January 14, 1929, at Hallton, Elk County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry M. Lindsey, Sr. and Ruby (Simmerline) Lindsey.
Margaret is survived by two sons, William E. Lindsey, Warren, PA and Ronald W. Himes, Franklin, PA, a granddaughter, Wendy S. Lindsey, Eustice, Florida, and a sister, Mary E. Himes, St. Marys, PA. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald E. Himes, on June 18, 1981. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Harry M. Lindsey, Jr., Wendell Lindsey, John Lindsey, Clyde R. Lindsey, and a sister, Frances L. Haskins. She is also preceded in death by a good family friend, Jack Dailey, who looked after her best interests for several years.
Margaret was a devoted wife and mother. Her years of labor, spent mostly as a housewife, led her down many paths. She was a good cook, always sharing her food and recipes with friends and neighbors. Her family was never without food, as dad made a garden and Margaret canned hundreds of jars of jelly, pickles, tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, peaches, pears, etc., each year. She was also known for her crafting skills, especially with a crochet hook, making thousands of “scrubbies” and prize-winning afghans.
She loved to spend time outdoors, working in her yard and with her flowers. Margaret loved music, especially classic Country & Western and church hymns. For several years, Margaret was the person on the other end of the advance ticket sales line for the Warren County Fair. The help that she gave to others, doing various tasks, whenever called upon, gave her great satisfaction and answered Jesus’ call to “love thy neighbor.”
After a mild stroke in 2017, Margaret moved to Sugar Creek Care Center, where she developed friendships with her various roommates, their families, and staff members. She enjoyed participating in various activities there and NOTHING could interrupt playing Bingo on Tuesdays. She was participating in an activity two hours before the major stroke that took her to her heavenly home.
The Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin, PA is in charge of arrangements. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, November 15, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 16, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Shawn Clerkin, pastor of St. John Episcopal and Grace Lutheran churches, as the presider.
