Catherine “Katie” Pearl (Power) McLaughlin
Catherine “Katie” Pearl (Power) McLaughlin, 75, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Warren Manor after a brief illness.
She was born April 6, 1949, to the late Romaine Irene Power Spicer and Roy G. Power. Katie lived most of her life in Barnes/Henry’s Mills. She attended Sheffield High School in 1967. Over the years, she worked at McMillen’s Lumber, Highland Group, and was a home-care giver prior to her cancer diagnosis.
She will be remembered for crocheting blankets for her family and friends. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and rarely missed listening to or watching a game. She also enjoyed reading and doing word searches. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she was known for decorating extensively and finding new ornaments each year for her tree. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, canning strawberry and elderberry jelly, beans, and tomatoes, and playing board games and cards with the family. She will also be remembered for always having ice cream with chocolate sauce for all her nieces and nephews when they came to the family get togethers at her home.
She married Albert C. McLaughlin on November 9, 1984, in their home in Henry’s Mills and later adopted their daughter Michelle. Katie and Al enjoyed taking drives looking for deer and other wildlife, relaxing on their front porch, feeding the hummingbirds, and tending their yard. She always had dogs that were her constant companions. Several years ago, Katie reluctantly moved to Canterbury Court in Warren, where she enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her new friends.
Left behind to cherish Katie’s memory are her daughter Michelle McLaughlin, grandson Myles, stepson David (Mary) McLaughlin, step grandchildren Lizzy, Davey, and Eric; sisters Grace Jones, Margie Power; nephews Tom Tyler (Tina), Dwayne Tyler (Cora), Ed Power, Chris Jones, Benjamin Power, and Robbie Doyle, and nieces Kathie Rosenfelder (Shane), Marsha Brady (Steve), Raeann Gesin, Amber Woods, and great-nieces Amy Dorrion (Bill), Jessica Huntington (Mike), Emma Shaw, Stacy Tyler, Brianna Tyler, Destinee Power, Mackenzie Woods, and Shaye Roberts; great-nephews Michael Tyler, Tristan Tyler, Shelby Tyler, Marc Tyler, Tristin Brady, Zach Brady, Zach Sturdevant, Frank Sturdevant, and Landon Woods, as well as many great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by husband Al, who passed away February 13, 1999; stepfather Leonard “Dugie” Spicer, sisters Rose Tyler, Diane Doyle, a nephew Joseph Power, and a niece Robin Doyle.
