David Cary Smith
David Cary Smith, 68, formerly of Pittsfield, PA and Phoenix, AZ passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at his home. Dave has been residing in Youngsville since 2017, but Phoenix was his true love and home for more than 30 years.
He was born on July 31, 1956 in Warren, PA to the late Cary and Marian (Johnson) Smith. Shortly after leaving school, he began his adventurous life hitchhiking back and forth across the U.S. many times. He had the best stories about his travels and the people he met along the way. Dave was an amazing artist. His artwork is so finely detailed, it’s hard to believe he was legally blind with limited vision in only one eye. He built the coolest things out of scraps or from ite ms he found on his latest hike through the woods. Dave also wrote poetry, won a poetry contest, and that poem was published in a book. He played drums and guitar and set some of his poems to music. Dave was very knowledgeable on all facets of military history. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge through conversation or through his artwork.
Dave is survived by his daughter Krista Smith and his grandson Dillon Smith; his siblings Sandi DeVore of Jamestown, NY and Gregory (Christine) Smith of Ft. Myers, FL. He was a rad uncle to two nieces and two nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Blaine Smith and a sister Linda Work (Dave Dalton).
From Dave’s Gypsy soul, “Like the dream that comes in the night, Life becomes a memory, Blown away by the winds of time.”
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
The Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Youngsville, have been entrusted with all arrangements. Condolences to the family may be made at nelsonfuneralhome.net.
