Gerald G. Bensink

Gerald G. Bensink, 93, of Corry, PA, peacefully passed away on Monday Jan. 20, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 25, 1931, to the late George and Lucille (Carroll) Bensink.

Gerald was raised and educated in Corry, and a graduate of the Corry School, class of 1949. He was a substitute teacher at Corry High School and in Tidioute, PA for several years. He loved traveling across the U.S. to visit National parks and visited the Netherlands in 2001.

Gerald was born on the family dairy farm where he raised beef and Holstein cattle, which was his passion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and working on the family farm located in Columbus Township. He also enjoyed woodworking, building beautiful furniture and treasures for his granddaughters in his spare time after retirement.

He received an agricultural degree from Penn State University. He worked for Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Services (ASCS) for 25 years, was the director at the Freehold Insurance Agency, was on the Board of Directors for the Warren Electric in Youngsville, PA. He also was part of the Columbus Cemetery Association for 53 years. For many years he was part of the Soil and Water Conservation Service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Beatrice Ann Loftus.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife Wanita “Jenny” (Harness) Bensink, whom he married on Oct. 11, 1958; son Gary Bensink of Corry, PA; daughter Sheri (Bensink) Bird of Brownville, NY; four granddaughters Kelsey Bird Posey and husband Ashton of Aiken, SC; Hannah Bird Sheveily and husband Colton of Columbus, GA; Madison Bird of Lakeland, FL; and Macy Bird of Brownville, NY; and four great-grandchildren, Kamryn and Graylon Posey, Levi and Maeve Sheveily; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at Bracken Funeral Home, Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry, PA 16407 on Sunday Jan. 26, 2025, from 2 pm until time of service there at 4 pm. Pastor Les Utegg will officiate.

Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, PA at a later date.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
