James Samuel “Sam” Breeding, 83, of Stoney Run Road, Pittsfield, PA, passed away at his home on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025. Born Aug. 3, 1941 in Clinchfield, VA., he was the son of the late Clyde and Sylvia Presley Breeding. Sam graduated High School in the class of 1959 in Cleveland, VA. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965 during the Vietnam Era as a Rank Specialist. He was a member of the Wrightsville Fire Department for 28 years where he previously was First Assistant Chief. He retired from his employment with Research Design and Development in Erie in 1996 after 21 years. He was previously a welder at Penn Furnace and Iron in Warren. Sam also worked the gates at Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY and Eriez Speedway in Erie, PA.
Sam is survived by his wife, Loretta Fisher Breeding whom he married March 29, 1969. Also surviving are 4 children, James (Tammie Haynes) Breeding, Todd (Dawn) Breeding, Kevin (Jodi) Breeding and Joe (Tracy) Breeding; 13 grandchildren, Kayla (Kyle) Argeny, Ashley (Kyle) Dahl, Victoria (Dillon) Cross, Jonny Breeding, Zach Breeding, Taylor Breeding, Lyli Breeding, Sadie Breeding, Aaron Wright, Sophia Wright, Kennedy Cratty, Karissa Cratty and Madeline Cratty; five great-grandchildren, Bentley, Shailee, Liam, Jackson, and Brodie; two sisters, Polly Duhaine and Sue Terry; several nieces and nephews; and his special little dog, Lilly.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Gladys Fisher; 10 brothers-in-law, Lloyd, Norm, Tom, Sam, Jim, and George Fisher, Glenn Elder, Rocco Lusciano, Gary Ransom and Bill Duhaine; and a sister-in-law, Violet Lusciano.
Friends and family will be received for visitation at McKinney Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 54 W. Main St., Youngsville, PA on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025 at 1 pm with Rev. Larry Little officiating. A graveside service will be held with full military honors following the services at the funeral home at The Wrightsville Cemetery.
