Karl Eugene Olson

Karl Eugene Olson, 91, of Warren Pa passed peacefully on Jan. 18, 2025. Karl was born Aug. 8, 1933 in Brookville, PA to the late Oliver Olson and Edith (Newhouse) Olson. He spent his childhood in Irvine, Pa.

After graduating in 1951 from Youngsville High School, Karl began a 42-year career at the National Forge in Irvine, PA. There he started as a tool and die maker and at the time of his retirement was the superintendent of the Boring Department.

In 1959 Karl and his wife Carol became members of the St. John’s Lutheran Church. While a congregant at St. Johns’ Lutheran Church, Karl taught the catechism classes, served as a council member and council president. Karl remained a faithful member until his death.

Karl’s was an amateur photographer who documented his life through the lens of a camera. He labored lovingly in his garden each year and spent hours honing his carpenter skills. His love for the world around him was deep and he shared this appreciation of nature with his family and friends. An avid outdoors man he was a lifelong fisherman and hunter and remained a devoted land steward through the care of his “forest” at his beloved Miller’s Hill.

Karl was a patient and loving father and grandfather. In his later years he spent countless hours with his grandchildren exploring Buckaloons Allegany National Park, riding “Big Red” and playing Putt Putt Golf.

Karl never met a stranger and had the ability to strike up a conversation with everyone he met. His kindness, gentleness and innate sense of decency are a testament to his enduring legacy. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those he touched thought out his life.

In addition to his parents, Karl was proceeded in death by his brother Norman (Mick) Olson and his wife Geraldine (Gerry) Olson.

Karl is survived by his wife of 67 years Carol (Hendrickson) Olson; daughter, Karen Bertini and spouse John Bertini; grandchildren Juliana Brown and spouse Robert (Bobby) Brown, and Joseph Bertini and spouse Courtney Bertini of Houston, TX; his son Mark Olson and spouse Patty Olson; grandchildren Amanda, Matthew and Kate Olson of Byfield MA.

A Memorial service for Karl will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 Pleasant Drive, Warren, PA, on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at 10 am, with the Reverend Jeffrey Ewing, pastor, officiating.
