Lauren Evelyn Weiss, Esq.
Lauren Eveyln Weiss, Esq., died unexpectedly at the age of 42 at her home in Buffalo, NY. Lauren grew up in Warren, Pa., the daughter of longtime eye surgeon Dr. Robert Weiss and Mary Weiss (nee Berglund), and cherished her Swedish heritage, still making family dishes like snow pudding and cardamom cake during the holidays. She insisted on bringing the stuffing, or in her case, stuffings, to Thanksgiving dinner as well, always happy to help put together a jigsaw puzzle with her nieces and nephews, chat about the state of the world, or rehash the plot of one of her favorite Simpsons episodes.
A lifelong Chautauquan, she spent summers in high school and college working as a lifeguard at the Institution. Even until this last year, she spent much of the summer visiting her family on the lake, often the ready volunteer when it was time to take visitors out on the boat. Her willingness to spend hours repeatedly helping novice skiers get up on the water, or towing little ones tubing, fostered more beloved core memories for her loved ones than she likely understood. They wish they had told her thank you more often.
Lauren graduated from Warren Area High School in 2000, then went on to earn a B.A. in psychology from the University of Rochester in 2004 and her J.D. from the University of Buffalo in 2007. While she spent a number of years practicing law in both the juvenile court system and private practice in New York State, Lauren’s passion for cooking eventually brought her to the New England Culinary Institute in Montpellier, Vermont, where she worked for a time at a number of resort kitchens. She brought her talents back to the Chautauqua region for a time as well. Her kind and gentle spirit will likely be what is most missed about Lauren. Never one to gossip, she was an extraordinary listener, holding back judgement in lieu of simply holding space. She treasured nature and animals, especially the cats she never hesitated to give a home to.
Lauren loved all kinds of music, decades of films, quirky pundits, smart comedians, the Buffalo Bills, and being a part of family gatherings more than anything. She told her mother she loved her every day, and made everyone feel the same in her quiet, caring presence. When she smiled, her eyes nearly closed from the joy of it. She lived a life that has left all who knew her grieving a life far, far too short. Lauren was the beloved sister of Karen (Roger) Walcott and Carl (Colleen) Weiss, adored aunt of Evelyn, Margaret, George, Henry, Robert, and Catherine. She will be sadly missed by many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends.
Her family will be present Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Amigone Funeral Home at 1132 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY (near W. Ferry Street). Her internment at Oakland Cemetery in Warren, Pa. will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ten Lives Club at www.TenLivesClub.com or Hospice of Warren County at 1 Main Ave., Warren, Pa. 16365.
