Richard L. McChesney
Richard L. McChesney, 83, of Youngsville, passed away on December 22, 2024 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Dick was born September 17, 1941 in Torpedo, PA to the late Leland and Mable (Hare) McChesney. He served in the National Guard, worked at his brother’s sawmill, and then settled in at the National Forge, from where he retired.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Fox) McChesney, whom he married on July 30, 1965 in Falconer, his three sons, Timothy (Stephanie) McChesney of Russell, Michael McChesney of Youngsville, Eric (Lori) McChesney of Warren, his grandchildren, Emily, Jake, Cade, Adam, Dillon, Callie, and Grace, and his great granddaughter, Ellie. He is also survived by his siblings, Fred (Ann) McChesney and Mary (Denny) Schmader and several nieces and nephews.
In additional to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Leland and William McChesney.
He was involved in many of his sons’ activities over the years. He coached Little League baseball for almost 15 years, including managing the entire league for several years. In his younger years, he loved to golf and even taught himself to ski at Buckaloons. On occasion, he would allow his kids to skip school and spend the day skiing at Holiday Valley, although if asked, the kids would deny it. He was always happiest outside, doing yardwork or tinkering with something. He loved listening to music and those who spent time at the McChesney house will remember it blaring at all hours of the day.
He was a loving and devoted husband for almost 60 years, caring and involved dad, wonderful and kind grandpa, and adoring great-grandpa. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Sutton Hill Cemetery, 117 Wetmore St. Warren, Pa 16365, where he will be buried.
The Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Youngsville, have been entrusted with all arrangements. Condolence to the family may be made at nelsonfuneralhome.net.
