Russell Morrow Bimber
Russell Morrow Bimber, 95 of Oberlin, Ohio, passed away on September 21, 2024 from a respiratory infection.
Russ was born on March 26, 1929 in Warren, PA to the late Archie Morrow Bimber and Delcie Korb Bimber.
Russ graduated Warren Area High School at the age of 17 and enlisted in the Army serving in Korea. In 1952 Russ graduated from Antioch College with a BS in Chemistry and later earned his MS in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University.
Russ was known for his expertise in chemistry and was awarded 23 patents for agrichemicals. He worked for Diamond-Shamrock and Ricera. In 1970 Russ became one of the founding members of CHEMTREC which produced the signage system that identifies chemicals being transported as well as a hotline to advise on remediation and safety for accidents involving chemicals.
Russ was an environmentalist who served on several civilian oversight boards for nuclear power plant construction & operation, civil defense and other environmental matters. When a train derailment contaminated a local pond, Russ made arrangements with the responsible company and personally treated the pond for several years until it was safe for people to use.
In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his wife, Constance Dowling Bimber, two brothers, Stan Bimber, John Bimber, and two sisters, Dorothy (Bimber) Farrell, and Violet (Bimber) Kavinski.
Russ is survived by three children Fred (Karen) Bimber, Barbara (Bill) Hiles, Bill (Leslie) Bimber, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and by his youngest sister Marilyn (Bimber) Sampson.
