William Robert Todd

William Robert Todd, 75, of Oil City, PA., passed away Friday Jan. 3, 2024 at Shippenville Healthcare.

Born May 21, 1949 in Punxsutawney, PA., he was the son of the late Robert and Helen Burkett Todd.

Willliam spent most of his childhood on a farm in Windy Wiz in Timblin, PA.

He graduated from Warren High School.

Bill entered the United States Marine Corp. on Nov. 26, 1968 and did tours in Japan and Vietnam.

While in Vietnam, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, and the Good Conduct Medal. He also received the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm and frame, and a rifle sharpshooter badge.

Upon his return, he worked at a bank before taking a job with Columbia Gas. He held several positions during his 30 + years until his early retirement.

Bill and Vivian bought an old falling down house and rebuilt it with his own hands doing most of the work. After the house was finished, he worked part time for Home Depot and then in maintenance for Crestview Apartments.

He was an avid hunter, with a “Cadillac” deer stand and a man cave over the garage where he would sit most late afternoons watching the deer come to his field planted with special “deer feed”.

He loved being outdoors whether he was working in the garden, brush hogging a field, cutting wood, or just playing with his dogs.

Most especially, he loved playing with his grandchildren. Gumpy took them on treasure hunts, to the ‘Rocky Mountain”, and visiting the ghost house. He made them squeal with delight on the 4-wheeler rides and built them a treehouse and swing set in his backyard.

He once said he never really liked kids until the grandchildren came along. They gave him pure, unconditional love that he gladly gave back to them.
