James “Jim” Stewart Loding
James “Jim” Stewart Loding passed peacefully, on January 22, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by loved ones, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Elmon Edwards in Gloucester, Virginia. Jim resided there with his wife, Marilyn Louise Johanson Loding, for about 4 years, after failing health.
Jim was born August 20, 1936, in Warren, PA, where he grew up and graduated from Warren High School in 1954. He went on to join the U.S. Navy, from 1954-1958. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Louise Johanson, in 1958.
Jim worked a couple of years for the Warren Post Office, and then spent the next 35 years at the Warren Police Department, as their Chief Clerk of Records and Filing. He moonlighted at Kinzua Dam as a Waterways Patrolman.
He was President of the IBEW, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, while he lived in Warren. He was an avid fisherman. Jim was definitely a quiet but funny guy, full of great wit and humor. He was a true family man, who loved his family with all of his heart, and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim and Marilyn moved to Virginia to be near their daughter and family, and to watch their grandchildren grow up, in 1994.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Gladys E Mitten Loding and his father, Willis “Bing” Loding.
He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Marilyn Johanson Loding, His daughter, Kristi Edwards (Elmon), of Gloucester, VA, his sister Ann Tjersland (Tory) of Olympia, WA, a Grandson, Shawn Swanson (Cara), of Macon, GA, Grandson Jared Swanson (Tammy), of Virginia Beach, VA, a Granddaughter, Jenna Futch (Jared) of Gloucester, VA, and 2 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation will take place at Andrews Funeral Home in Gloucester, VA, with no service. Following will be a private Burial at Sea, with the US Navy, leaving out of Norfolk, VA.
