James J. Lopus
It is with immense sadness and everlasting love that the family of James J. Lopus, announce his passing surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 81 years.
Jim was born March 19, 1943, in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late James T. and Ruth M. (Tout) Lopus.
Jim will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Joan M. Lopus, of 58 years; children, Janine Tomassoni and partner Bill LeMeur, Jeanne Foley and husband Shawn, Jennifer Madril and husband Rick, and James J. Lopus Jr; grandchildren, Madelyn Tomassoni, Lydia Tomassoni, Christian Foley, Alicia Leen and husband Jeffrey Leen, Grayson Foley and fiance Lindsay Freeborough, Myah Madril, Ricardo Madril, and Mateo Madril; great grandchildren, Lionel Foley, Hudson Leen, and Merritt Leen; sister-in-law, Mary Lopus; nephew, Gary Lopus and wife Renee; niece Amie Toaso and husband Cary; great niece and nephews, Kylie Lopus, Mason Lopus, TJ Lopus, and August Toaso.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Gary F. Lopus; and grandson, Jaxon J. Madril.
Jim attended and graduated the Bishop Timon High School in Buffalo, NY, and then received a Bachelor’s degree from Canisius College in NY. Jim then served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam received the Bronze Star, and then served in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring as a Major.
Jim was employed for many years in wholesale in retail fuel at the United Refining Company from which he retired. He was a member of Jackson Valley Country Club, the Conewango Valley Country Club, Warren Elks Lodge 223, American Legion Post #135, and Holy Redeemer R.C. Church. Jim was also an avid Bills fan. He was an avid golfer and spent many days playing golf with his family. Most importantly, Poppy loved and will long be remembered for spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren for whom he had tremendous love for.
Friends will be received at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. East, Warren, PA, on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, and for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there with Military Honors on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00am, with Deacon Ray Weihagen, officiating.
