Edward “Eddie” C. Bello

Edward “Eddie” C. Bello, 96, of Jamestown, NY, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at UPMC Chautauqua surrounded by his family.

Eddie was born on Feb. 4, 1929 in Jamestown, the son of the late George and Helen Bello.

Eddie graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947. He played basketball and football during his high school years and later enjoyed ping pong, billiards and playing pinochle with his friends at South Hills Country Club. Eddie was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and a member of First Congregational Church UCC.

Eddie was a 63-year member of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) of America. He started his golf career as an assistant at Chautauqua Golf Club, and Moonbrook Country Club. He then became the golf pro at Blueberry Hill, Cable Hollow, Gowanda, Fox Run in Ludlow, VT, Rockland Lake State Park in Congers, NY, Silver Lake in Perry, NY, and Chestnut Hill in Darien, NY. After retirement, he helped at South Hills Country Club and was a starter at Conewango Valley Country Club. The highlight of his golfing career was when he played in the U.S. National Senior PGA Professional Championship in Florida. Another major accomplishment was having three aces during his career. Eddie never had a bad day on the golf course and truly loved sharing the game with family, friends and countless students throughout his lifetime.

In addition to his parents, Eddie is preceded in death by his wife Beverly Peterson Bello, whom he married on June 26, 1948 and shared nearly 67 years of marriage; and a brother Spiro Bello.

Eddie is survived by three sons, Stephen (Noreen) Bello of Austin, TX, Edward “Chick” (Mary) Bello of Warren, PA, and Randall Bello of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Megan Bello, Sarah Subrizi, Elizabeth Spoust, Stephanie Elliott, and Laura Bello; great-grandchildren, Bridget, Wilder, Matthew, Alexander, Evan and Brooke; two nieces, Elizabeth Hedberg Graves, and Cynthia Hedberg Sorenson; and a nephew Richard Hedberg.

A private graveside service will be held by the family.
