John P. Morgan Sr.

John P. Morgan Sr.

John P. Morgan Sr., 69, of Barnes, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA. He was born on Oct. 2, 1955, the son of the late Ellrie E. (Bud) Morgan and Carol Jean (Noren) Morgan.

Growing up with a strong work ethic and compassionate soul, John worked very hard and sacrificed greatly, so that others could have a better life. The majority of his life he spent working in the Allegheny National Forest as a logger, a place where he found peace. In recent years, John found great comfort being outside in nature; he loved the woods and going fishing with his partner Penny. He continued to work with his hands fixing up John Deere tractors once he finally retired. More than anything, John loved spending time with and talking to his grandkids. His pride and joy was being a grandfather.

Left behind to cherish John’s memories are his companion Penny Morgan; his sister Kathleen Morgan and her husband William Dunham; sons, John Morgan and his wife Amy and their children, Alyssa, Chelsea, Hannah and Mitchell, and Jason Morgan and his wife Sally and their children, Haley and Hayden, daughters, Jennifer Fromknecht and her husband Dan and their children Colten and Devyn, Jessie Ochalek and her husband Matthew and their children Brigid and John, and Bobbi Jo Hagg, her son Nicholas and her companion Brad Riggin, and stepson Robert Wyman and step-granddaughters Zaylee and Rian Cressley.

In addition to his parents, and many aunts and uncles, John was preceded in death by his brothers Fred Fabert, Alan Morgan and Richard Morgan, and stepson Randy Wyman.

The family wishes to thank the staff at UPMC Hamot, especially those who work in the MICU and on 7-South Unit. John was appreciative of the care given and the friendship offered.

There will be no public calling or services observed. A private family visitation will be held at the Borden Funeral Home, 203 W. Main St., Sheffield, PA with services to follow at 12 p.m. with Deacon Matthew Ochalek (John’s son-in-law) presiding. Burial will be private.

The family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the Sheffield Food Pantry, PO Box 721, Sheffield, PA 16347.
