William R. Hinsdale
William R. Hinsdale, 73, of Pittsfield, PA., died peacefully Friday morning, April 11, 2025, of natural causes. He was born Oct. 27, 1951, in Jamestown, N.Y. He as the son of William Ralph and Mary Messenger Hinsdale. William was a 1969 graduate of Eisenhower High School. He then went to Penn State, graduating in 1972, with a scientific degree in computer science. He was employed part time for Marv’s Sterling from 1967 to 1983. Using his degree, he worked at Blackstone as an application programmer and shortly after starting, moved to be an engineering programmer, from 1972 to 1980. He worked in Wellsville, N.Y. for a couple of years, as a system programmer, installing and maintaining an IBM MVS operating system. He then moved to Raleigh, N.C., in the fall of 1983, as a system programmer and other mainframe tasks. He worked for ITT, Northern Telecom, IBM and CSC (computer science Corp) until he retired in 2016, after having a professional career for 44 years. Bill enjoyed following NASCAR races both in person and on television, following dirt races, especially super late models in the area.
He also enjoyed working on his own vehicles.
Bill is survived by his nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews – Shelly Zimmerman and husband, Mike of Pittsfield, PA., Mark D. Johnson and wife, Jillian, Erica Bailey and husband, Joseph all of Warren, PA.; great nieces and nephews, Ashlynn and Ethan Zimmerman, Kelsey and Liam Johnson, Ema Fox, Josie Bailey and Peter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters – Mary Emma Hinsdale Johnson and Marilyn Hinsdale Walker.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 5 to 7 PM at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East St., Warren, PA. A funeral and committal service will follow the visitation at 7 PM. with Rev. Rick Hamrick, Pastor of Youngsville Free Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Wesleyan Methodist Cemetery, Sugar Grove, PA. Those wishing to place memorials may do so through a charity of one’s choice.
