Banks present dangers
Dear Editor,
Because of a recent accident in our family, we were pleasantly surprised to see the article on restoration of the Brokenstraw Creek’s banks (June 17).
On May 26 two of our family members were walking the beautifully peaceful trail along the Brokenstraw near Youngsville when one walked to the bank, unaware it had been undercut about 18 inches by high water.
When the bank gave way, she fell 8 to 10 feet, breaking five vertebrae and five ribs.
The father of one of her ICU nurses had a similar accident on a creek in Corry and a man she recently met had a similar accident involving his lawnmower on the Brokenstraw.
I applaud those who are working to restore the banks and thank the Times Observer for the informative article. Finally, I urge everyone to enjoy but be vigilant near the banks of all waterways.

Selling America
Dear Editor,
As an 81-year-old Army veteran, I am upset with what is occurring in America.
We give aid to foreign countries that hate us yet people in America need healthcare and somewhere to live (including many veterans). Some of this aid doesn’t even end up being used for its intended purpose.
Our politicians are constantly bickering among themselves instead of doing their jobs. Instead of raising taxes, why don’t they decline their annual raises or cut back on their perks (such as expensive vehicles)? In my opinion there are too many politicians on the payroll both state and national.
Income tax should be raised on a percentage of earnings that is fair to all. One percent of net income without any deductions or loopholes would sure help the national debt. Everyone would pay the same amount. Importing more than exporting is not a good sign. The trade balance in 2023 was a $65 billion deficit. Buying foreign cars and trucks gives the foreign interests money to buy this country. Japan buying US Steel, China buying farmland and Chrysler no longer exists.
Someone told me that Hondas and Toyotas are made in America. Who owns the ground the factories are on and where do the profits go? Back across the ocean to buy America.
I remember Nikita Kruschev in 1960 saying they would destroy us without an invasion. Seems to me it’s working.
I hear a lot of buy local in Warren County. How about buying American from American businesses.
You can’t reach common sense and you can’t fix stupid.

Biden, U.S. is lost
Dear Editor,
It is disheartening to see what Joe Biden has done to this country. Allowing millions of people to enter the U.S. illegally, proves that the president deserves to be impeached for breaking the laws of this country and the laws of human decency.
I would call this a democracy breaker. This administration cares nothing about the people they allow into this country; to them the illegals are numbers, not people with needs. Americans are losing their lives to placate the Biden administration’s push for power. Terrorists are now living amongst us; who knows how long until they decide to create another 9-11 on our soil!
We still hear about Donald Trump not accepting the 2020 election. Remember Hillary Clinton in 2016? She paid for a phony dossier that pushed the narrative that it was Russian disinformation. She lost that election, even trying to fix the outcome in her favor. We still hear about that from her, but does anyone say anything condemning her statements? Hardly. Democrats break the laws over and over, and Republicans get blamed.
Many people have denounced the 2020 election. Why not? The Dems and media suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop, and we learned about the linkage of the Bidens to complicity in overseas activities. How many citizens may have changed their vote through election interference? Rules for voting changes almost daily, especially with former Gov. Tom Wolf in Pennsylvania — possibly interference, but certainly mass confusion.
The recent court case with Trump was obviously a set up to curtail his ability to campaign for the presidency. Looking at the players in the prosecution, and jury of Democrats, one knew it was doomed from the start not to serve a fair outcome. Americans have seen through this charade; through this millions of dollars have been donated to Trump’s campaign to show support against this unfair verdict, many donating for the first time.
It would be refreshing and unifying if Biden’s speeches would be uplifting and encouraging instead of constantly reverting to a racist connotation. During these times we need to talk about what’s right, not continually hearing what’s wrong with this country. When Trump speaks about this country, his words are about we, our. He’s with us and for us as a nation.
As the fall election draws nearer, each voter should pay attention to the person, not the party. I really can’t imagine why Biden would be re-elected with everything falling apart in this country, most of which occurred during his watch. To view him on the world stage, being led from place to place with a dumb founded look on his face, is sad and embarrassing. Does he really know where he is and what he is doing at the time? He said before he was elected he would run to be a one term president, but he’s reneging on that statement. Maybe all his cohorts, who have made the job look easy because they have done it for him, have changed his or someone’s mind, allowing us to view him as a willing conspirator in continuing our country’s slide into socialism.
With the cognitive problems he is having now, what would another term look like? At some point Vice President Kamala Harris would no doubt be president through the 25th Constitutional amendment, and that is even scarier than another Biden term. Her only “qualification” is being a black female; that alone certainly doesn’t make for a guiding presence in the White House.
Many on the left complain about Trump’s tweets. Had the media let him alone to do his job, he may have curtailed his thoughts. At any rate, actions speak louder than words. His accomplishments were indicative of a rousing economy. Our people were successful, and we were able to have a better quality of life than what is now being experienced by many. The world outside our door wasn’t falling apart with emboldened terrorists moving forward; Biden started that ball rolling with a devastating withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Lying about these problems Americans face makes the socialist democrats look foolish and out of touch with the reality they choose to ignore. If they manufacture some way to give illegals a vote, thoughtful Americans will see these lies and innuendos for what they are: the nefarious way the left uses to win at any cost, making the election unlawful, unfair to legal Americans, and definitely tainted with interference, that even the left couldn’t deny.
