Our opinion: County again shows its heart
We’re not sure why we were surprised by the depth of Warren County’s support for victims of Hurricane Helene.
We should have known by now not to doubt that county residents will do what they can to help neighbors – even those who live hours away – when they’re in need.
But after hearing about some of the efforts last week, all we can say is “Wow.”
Bob Borden and Craig Frankhouser chose to use their vacation time to take supplies and offer assistance. It’s a bigger undertaking than one would think – they found trucks and trailers, coordinated with an organization on the ground, coordinated donations to fill their trailers and, let’s not forget, will spend hours driving and working to help others.
Logan and Chelsea Hunt’s Crosswind Aviation Co. in Corry will be flying down with supplies. Another project headed up by Alicia Gatto is Warren’s Hurricane Relief Project. Gatto’s group gathered items Saturday to be sent to help Helene’s victims.
Another Warren County native, Heather Peterson Graham, who has lived in North Carolina for around 20 years, is putting together a supply drive for items that those in Western North Carolina need most. Graham is a teacher, and the third-grade students at her school will sort, box, and label all supplies to prepare them for delivery to the areas hit hardest.
Kudos, Warren County. You’ve done it again.
