Our opinion: Celebrating foundation milestone

Where would Warren County be without the Community Foundation of Warren County?

It’s not something we want to think about.

The foundation was created in 1949 and, in the 75 years since, has become a nearly indispensable part of the fabric of Warren County with a multi-million dollar endowment that helps support the county’s artists, students in college or trade schools and community needs as they arise.

Those who don’t have a feel for just how wide-spread the Community Foundation of Warren County’s reach is should try to attend an open house on Dec. 12 at its offices, 310 Second Ave., Warren. The day will include holiday cookies and hot chocolate, live musical performances, and in the philanthropic spirit, they will be collecting non-perishable food items to benefit local area food pantries. Musical performances by some of the groups supported by the foundation include the Warren Music Conservatory, the Warren Summer Music School Ensemble and Olena Furman, a pianist and vocalist who came to Warren from Ukraine representing the Warren Area Refugee Relocation Network. The Warren Philharmonic Ensemble will be the final group to perform. Donations can be brought for the First Nazarene Church, Sheffield Ecumenical, St. Joseph Church, Warren Salvation Army, Youngsville Second Street food pantries, and monetary donations will benefit the Second Harvest backpack program and the Warren County School District Food Pantry.

The Community Foundation of Warren County has touched thousands of lives in Warren County over the past 75 years both in the money it has raised and given away but also in the sense of community the foundation has created with the groups it has supported over the years.

Happy 75th anniversary to the Community Foundation of Warren County. We can only imagine what the next 75 years will bring.
