Youngsville hosted North East in cross country competition Tuesday at Youngsville High School.

While the Eagles lacked enough runners to score in the team event in each race, there were still several personal bests and strong performances across the board for the red and white.

Youngsville’s Cassy Britton was the first female across the finish line, completing her race in 21:56 ahead of teammate Sarah Sabella who was second in 22:31. Sabella’s time was her personal best for the season and teammate Lizzy Hollis also delivered a strong performance with an eighth-place run of 28:28.

Despite having only four runners on the course, the Eagles took two of the top three positions in the boys race. Youngsville was led by Mike Bojackzo’s personal-best run of 20:04 and teammate Logan McDonald also delivered a career-best run with a time of 20:17. Tim Hazeltine was eighth across the line for Youngsville in 20:59 and Tristan Coccaro completed the 3.1-mile course in 32:12 for his best run of the season.

The Eagles will return to action Saturday when they travel to Sharpsville for the Blue Devil Invitational.

SENECA GIRLS BEAT KNIGHTS

RUSSELL — Seneca beat Eisenhower in girls Region 4 action.

The Knights’ Kierra Wismar finished third, just one minute off the winning time of 24:30. Madison Cathcart and Emily Grosch finished sixth and seventh, respectively, for Eisenhower, which will run at the Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday.

RULANDER, LINDELL TAKE FIRST

Despite a sweep at the hands of visiting Harbor Creek, Warren runners finished first in both the girls and boys varsity races Tuesday at Betts Park.

Warren’s Shyann Rulander led the girls varsity race in 21:03 in a 24-35 team loss.

In a 20-43 boys loss to the Huskies in which Harbor Creek runners finished second through eighth individually, Warren’s Sam Lindell won by a minute and 39 seconds in 16:47.

“They are a tough team to beat, but our top runners showed up big today on the individual side,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “Everyone improved their times in this course from when we ran out earlier. This is a big goal of ours to see progress, so we are headed in the right direction.”

Morgan Alexander was third for Warren in the girls varsity race in 21:25, Kasey Kophazy 26:24, Lorelei Johnson finished in 27:51, Riley Evan 30:27 and Brady Caudill 32:45.

For the Dragon boys, Cole English finished in 22:35, Parker Mowrey 24:31, Blake Albaugh 25:40 and Kevin Roberts 26:02.

Eighth-grader Emma Peterson won the girls’ shortened junior high race, and Leyton Salvatore was second in the boys’ junior high race.
