Warren’s twin all-stars
9 Dragons named all-region, including all-district Irwins
Warren’s girls soccer team can field nearly an entire starting lineup full of all-stars after its District 10 3A title this fall.
Nine Lady Dragons in all were voted to the first and second teams in Region 6 by the region’s coaches.
In addition to being named first-team region all-stars at forward and midfielder, respectively, Warren sophomores and twin sisters Meea and Leyna Irwin were named to the all-District 10 Second Team by Erie Times-News.
In 20 games, Meea Irwin scored 35 goals and had 14 assists, and Leyna Irwin had 25 goals and 13 assists.
Joining the Irwins on the first team were senior teammate Hailey Peterson in goal, senior Eliza Brook at midfield, and senior center back Chloe Sliter. Brook led Warren with 21 assists, and Peterson finished with 80 saves, allowing 16 goals with five shutouts.
On the second team were junior forward Lucy Bigelow (12 goals), senior midfielder Marielle Stanz, and junior Charlotte Keeports and sophomore Lilly Stanley on defense.
“What an honor for nine of our players to be nominated all-region,” said Warren coach Mark Ordiway.
“We’re very happy to see these young ladies get recognized for their strong play this season,” Ordiway added. “These girls also put in a lot of unseen hours lifting weights, improving their skills, and playing for various club teams around the area. Their hard work and dedication is what makes them stand out on the field. They are all great teammates as well.
“Additional congratulations to Leyna and Meea for being selected second-team All-District 10,” Ordiway added. “What a huge accomplishment for them to be chosen as top-20 field players in the area. They are definitely two of the most talented and competitive young ladies in the district. Their honors are very well deserved.”
