Warren rallies again for another mat win
CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — For the second time in three matches, Warren’s wrestling team came back from a huge deficit. This time, the Dragons trailed 30-0 before rallying to defeat Cambridge Springs, 42-36, on Wednesday at Cambridge Springs Junior/Senior High School.
“Starting again at 145 — same as last week, the boys gave up five straight falls to give Cambridge Springs a 30-0 lead,” said Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger. “We are blessed to have those boys from 145 to 189 (pounds); they all give us the best effort and want to improve.”
Senior Damien Sanchez started the comeback at 215 pounds with a pin at the 1:48 mark.
After splitting forfeits, Warren “stepped on the pedal,” said Baldensperger, whose Dragons improve to 9-4 overall with their third straight win.
At 114, junior Adika Fiscus made short work of his opponent with a fall in 29 seconds.
Senior Ryan Fitzsimmons had a takedown and fall in 1:15 at 121.
Next up at 127, Trey Carrington battled off a near takedown by his opponent to secure a takedown “and, you guessed it, the ‘Carrington cradle’ was locked up for the fall at 1:42,” said Baldensperger.
With the match tied at 36-36, the pressure was once again on Ethen Ringer at 139 pounds. “Not needing a fall this time, just a victory and up 9-4, he secured a fall at the 5:54 point,” said Baldensperger.
“Sure makes it fun,” said the coach. “We lost three matches this year by a grand total of five points. The team effort is definitely sinking in with the boys. I’d also like to give some credit to (coaches) Garrett Smead and Dan Pascuzzi; they have been staying after practices and giving the boys more mat time.”
