Boardman conquers Stateline
BUSTI, N.Y. — Race fans and teams at the New Stateline Speedway were welcomed to alluring mid-summer weather, as well as another action-filled evening of racing, etching night No. 8 of 2024 in the books at the Chautauqua County oval.
Jamestown’s John Boardman would tell you that he had an up and down season in 2023, but as of late the veteran wheelman has been the man to beat in the region’s Pro Stock class. Boardman would go uncontested the entire 20-lap $1,500 to win Pro Stock Special to bag his second Stateline Speedway Pro Stock A-main of the season.
Ninth-place starter John Cline, in his best run of 2024, was second, another Jamestown native, Tanner Ramsey, was third, youngster Andrew Hammond was fourth, and Brandon Connor would complete the top 5.
Randolph’s Kyle Bedell has really come into his own the last two seasons. On this night, the engaging #7J would hold off a late-race challenge from chauffeur Jason Genco to post his first-ever Stateline Speedway Super Late Model feature triumph. The elated Bedell would hit his marks throughout the 25-lap showcase to finally carve his name on Stateline’s esteemed Super Late’s all-time winners list. Genco would have to settle for second, current points leader Greg Oakes was third, previous week’s winner Darrell Bossard was fourth, and Ryan Scott would cross the line in fifth.
It was all the Quaker State Green and Arctic White #29J of Jason Genco in the RUSH Crate Late Model’s 20-lap extravaganza.
With the win, Genco is only four wins from tying the class’s all-time winner at Stateline, Max Blair. June 15th feature winner David Parker would chip into Genco’s lead at the end, but would settle for second. Veteran Ward Schell, with one of his best outings of the season, finished third, two-time Stateline winner in 2024 Randy Hall was fourth, as Titusville, Pennsylvania’s Josh Ferry completed the top five.
Birthday boy Troy Johnson would weather a slew of late-race cautions to go on to rout a star-studded field of UMP Modifieds to nab back-to-back feature wins at Stateline Speedway. This would also be the 62-year-old Johnson’s eighth career win in the class at the Northwestern New York facility. Greg Johnson would ride home second, 11th-place starter Tim Peterson with an impressive run finished third, as CJ Ramsey, and Tim Rockwell completed the top five.
The RUSH Pro Mod feature would be the night’s crowd pleaser. The 15-lap main event would witness four lead changes between the two frontrunners throughout the event. It would take a late-race restart for point’s leader Zain Harvey to finally muscle the lead from race leader Tim Peterson. Harvey would lead the remaining three laps to score feature win No. 5 of 2024. Peterson would have to settle for second, Nick Arnold with a podium run, finishing third, Vaughn Nystrom with another top-five was fourth, and last week’s winner Al Brewer was fifth.
John Mease in the Challengers nightcap would have to hold off previous week’s winner Dan Bittinger to nab Stateline Challenger feature conquest No. 2 of the season. Bittinger would stay glued to Mease’s bumper at the line, finishing in the bridesmaid spot, Mr. Consistency Holden Heinemann was third, Domingo Echevarria was fourth, and Tommy Labarbera, in his best run of 2024, finished fifth.
