Tarp Skunks’ pitchers shine in victory over Batavia
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Three Jamestown pitchers combined to toss a five-hit masterpiece Wednesday evening to lead the Tarp Skunks to a 3-1 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League victory over first-place Batavia at Diethrick Park.
Starter Gage Hayes (Drury University) improved his record to 4-1, working 3 1/3 innings before giving way to Warren native Ben Berdine (Mercyhurst University), who struck out two of three batters he faced. Griffin White (Wagner College) hurled the final three innings to earn his first save. He struck out three and gave up one hit.
Jamestown (16-18) scored all the runs it would need in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Brandon McLain-Banks (Youngstown State University) and a sacrifice fly by Leo Doyle (Wagner College).
The lone run for the Muckdogs (26-7) came in the fourth inning on an RBI single by James Bolton (SUNY Cortland). Batavia’s Lucas Lopez (St. Thomas University) was the only player on either team with two hits.
The Tarp Skunks are back in action today at Newark.
