The Jamestown Old Timers Baseball Club is working to continue its three-game winning streak.

The Old Timers swept the Salem, Ohio Amvets two games in a doubleheader Aug. 4 and more recently defeated the Greenville, Pennsylvania Cropdusters on Aug. 10.

The Old Timers are currently 4-11 in league play in the Youngstown 50 Plus league.

The regular season will conclude Saturday with a doubleheader against the United, Ohio team. Games will be played in Jamestown at Diethrick Park beginning at 11 a.m. Playoffs begin Sept. 21 in Ohio.

In addition to league play, the Old Timers are scheduled to play three charity games. The first is on Thursday versus the Warren County Sheriff’s Department at the Legion Field in North Warren, Pennsylvania. The game starts at 6 p.m. and is open to the public. Proceeds from the “Outs For Olive” game will go toward supporting the Warren County Sheriff’s K9 program. K9 Olive will be on hand to greet spectators. The second charity game is versus the Jamestown Police Department on Friday, Aug. 30 at Diethrick Park. First pitch is at 6 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend. The third charity game is versus the National Forest Service on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Diethrick Park. First pitch is at 6 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend.

In Game 1 against Salem, Winston Woodard earned the win and Wade Nelson doubled as Jamestown won 10-4. The Old Timers fell behind 3-0 in the second inning, but answered with a six-run bottom of the third.

In Game 2, Jamestown scored seven runs in the top of the third en route to a 12-2 victory. Ed Baldensperger earned the win, while Nelson and Glenn Morse each doubled.

Against Greenville, Jamestown led 2-0 early before Greenville tied the game 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning before Baldensperger’s RBI single won the game in the bottom of the seventh. Thomas earned the win, while Nelson, Morse and Baldensperger each doubled.

Golf leagues

RUSSELL, Pa. — Ed Shults of Warren leads the Park Avenue Motor Car Men’s Senior League at Blueberry Hill Golf Course with 119.5 points.

Mt. Laurel FCU is second with 111.5 points, followed by United Refining (107.5), The Shockers (107), Morning Sun (106), American Legion (105.5), Jones Pest Control (103.5), Sheffield Rod & Gun (101.5), Park Avenue Motor Car (100), Ace Hardware (98), Midtown Motors (97), Sheffield Timber (96.5), Jones Chevrolet (96.5), R&W Truck Service (91.5), NAPA Auto Parts (89.5), Eagles (86), Voty’s (84) and Frailey’s (80).

Jerry Bancroft and Mark Silvis tied for low gross with 36s, while Dick Merenick had a 38.

Mark Williams shot the low net with a 28, Jim Fitch had a 29 and Ike Borland had a 30.

Bancroft made two birdies.

WARREN — Cale Albaugh and Red Childress combined for 25 points to lead the Stableford League at Jackson Valley Golf Course.

Bob Barney and John Aldrich tied Mark Silvis and Ron Wilson for second with 22 points, followed by Ron Wagner and Tim Munksgard (21), and Jim Grosch and Dudley Nollinger (21).

Childress and Grosch tied for the most individual points from the White tees with 16, followed by Jason Rafalski (13) and Mason Burch (12).

From the Gold tees, Shane Flannery and Silvis tied with 14 points, followed by Aldrich, Wagner and Barney with 11 points apiece.
