Eisenhower boys, girls pick up shutouts in soccer
The Eisenhower boys and girls soccer teams both won Tuesday by shutting out their opponents.
The boys were home against Titusville and earned a 1-0 Region 4 victory.
The Lady Knights were on the road and shut out nonregion Kane 3-0.
The boys were dominant in their win. Rever Caudill’s header at the 25-minute mark of the first half would turn out to be the only goal the Knights would need.
In a game that put the skills of both goalkeepers on display, Eisenhower would get 25 shots on goal, including six shots off the crossbar, but none would find the back of the net.
“Our goalie, Casey Seymour, had a nice game in the net and I thought that Bryceton Wilkins, Michael Rutsky, and Mason Degnan kept us strong in the middle by their attacks on their goal,” Eisenhower head coach Mike Taylor said. “I have to give credit to their goalie, he did a nice job keeping us from scoring more than one goal.
The Lady Knights did all of their scoring in the first half as well.
Eisenhower senior Callan Gigliotti’s penalty kick less than three minutes into the game found the back of the net and the Knights led 1-0.
It took all of six minutes for Eisenhower to add to its lead when Lexi Scholar scored the first of her two goals in the game.
The Lady Knights passed the ball well, looking for opportunities as they took eight shots on goal, but it was Scholar who connected at the 18-minute mark to make it 3-0 Eisenhower.
Eisenhower goalkeeper Tracey Jakubczak was stellar in the net as she had eight saves on the day.
“It was a tricky game for us as a lot of our girls didn’t have any experience on the turf in that wet weather,” Eisenhower head coach Faith Johnson said. “Our girls worked really hard to keep the ball away from our net and to push it towards the Kane end. I am really proud of all of the girls today, they continue to work hard and the results are starting to show. Everyone has come a long way this season and I’m happy to see them coming out of their shells on the field.”
The Eisenhower boys are back in action Thursday with a Region 4 game at Mercyhurst Prep.
The Lady Knights will have their third game in three days when they travel to Maplewood today for a 4 p.m. Region 3 game.
