Eisenhower rallies past Cambridge Springs

RUSSELL — Eisenhower found itself down 1-0 just four minutes into their Region 3 game Tuesday against Cambridge Springs, but that early goal by the Blue Devils was enough to wake up the Knights as they shut out Cambridge Springs for the next 76 minutes en route to a 4-1 victory.

The Blue Devils’ Addie Orzo found herself on the right side of the net when teammate Hannah Berlin sent a pass her way and Orzo’s shot was just beyond the outstretched arms of Eisenhower goalkeeper Tracey Jakubczak to give Cambridge Springs the early lead.

That goal woke up the Knights and Lexi Scholar as she would have the hat trick with three goals in the game.

Eisenhower would score three goals in a five-minute span with Shaleigh Albaugh scoring a goal sandwiched around two from Scholar as the Knights took a 3-1 lead into halftime.

“We started slow and we’re battling from behind,” Eisenhower head coach Faith Johnson said. “Once the girls settled down into the game, we started to create opportunities and we were successful when we needed to be.”

Eisenhower came out of halftime and Scholar connected on a shot at the 34-minute mark to open up a 4-1 lead, which would hold up for the final score.

Jakubczak would successfully defend seven shots on goal as her teammates worked hard at keeping the ball away from her end of the field.

“We got all of the girls on the team that were able to play into the game,” Johnson said. “We are working hard to get them some experience and build depth as the season goes on. We have a tough battle in front of us on Thursday when we travel to Mercyhurst Prep. We will continue to work to get better, but I’m proud of how we played tonight.”

Eisenhower improved its region record to 1-1-0 and its overall record to 4-1-1 on the season.
