Sheffield in search of second victory

Sheffield is getting more used to competitive games, so it was disappointing to have last Friday’s game at Smethport suspended due to lightning. This week, the Wolverines will look to give Coudersport all they have to move to 2-1.

Last season, Coudy beat Sheffield 56-0 on its way to a District 9 Region 3 championship and 21-20 win in the D9 1A playoffs over Cameron County. This year, they are 1-2 with a win over Bucktail, and a big loss to Otto-Eldred — the same as the Wolverines (1-1).

Sheffield head coach Mike Barr expects another good Coudersport team at 7 p.m. tonight at Coudersport Stadium.

“We want to come out physical, (and) hopefully get our passing game going a bit more,” said Coach Barr. “Our keys … will be to minimize our mistakes. Coudy always puts out athletes. They are going to be jazzed up tomorrow; it’s their first home game of the season. Past years, they have had the top running back in the league. He graduated last year, but they still can run the ball.”

Much like Sheffield, big plays propelled Coudy to a lopsided win over Bucktail. Coudersport quarterback John Wright didn’t take long to expose the Bucktail secondary. The Falcons’ senior would blister the Bucks’ defense for over 200 yards through the air and four first-half touchdowns on an incredible 8 of 9 attempts.

Sheffield, on the other hand, mostly used the run to grind out the second half in a 38-6 win over Bucktail; its first win since 2019.

Starting at $2.99/week.
