Two goals a minute apart send Seneca past Ike

RUSSELL — The Eisenhower boys soccer team welcomed the Seneca Bobcats on Wednesday night and dropped a 3-2 Region 4 game.

The Knights struck first when Logan Degnan scored on a header off a pass from Derek Guiher just six minutes into the game.

The Bobcats would find the back of the net on a Tyler Wettekin goal just five minutes later to tie the score at 1-1.

Eisenhower played aggressively the entire game and ran down every loose ball, giving nothing easy to Seneca. It was a defensive battle in the first half, but Degnan would strike just eight minutes later on a Michael Rutsky pass to give the Knights a 2-1 lead, which would carry into halftime.

The Knights came out of halftime determined to hold on to their lead, but a span of just over a minute spelled defeat.

Seneca scored a pair of goals in that time and ultimately escaped with the 3-2 victory.

Knights goalkeeper Casey Seymour was busy in net, sending back 34 shots on goal versus just 13 for the Knights.

“Two quick goals by Logan gave us the lead, we just have to learn to close these games out,” Eisenhower head coach Mike Taylor said. “We can’t make mistakes against good teams, they will make us pay for it and Seneca did.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
