Cameron County tops Sheffield, 33-7

EMPORIUM — Cameron County is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in District 9’s Region 3 after a 33-7 home win on Friday over Sheffield. The Raiders scored off an interception to open the game, and on the ground and through the air to lead 20-0 by halftime. Quarterback Ryder Brown completed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jake Narby right before the half.

But after losing 51-0 to the Raiders a season ago, Sheffield opened eyes with its physicality, despite falling to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in Region 3.

“Their coach said we shocked them with how physical we were,” said Sheffield coach Mike Barr. “He said it’s amazing to see how far we have come.”

That includes an improved second half for the second straight week.

Unfortunately for Sheffield, Cameron County’s Boden Pearsall took the kickoff 80 yards to begin the third quarter for a 26-0 lead.

To start the fourth, Sheffield quarterback Colby Barr put the Wolverines on the board with a four-yard rushing touchdown.

That was as close as they would get as Kamden Fragale responded with his second rushing score of the game, and Cameron County’s third offensive touchdown.

Coach Barr said the Wolverines contained the Raiders impressive ground game as well as could be expected, “and we ran well,” he said. “We just got fancy and they caught us.”

Barr had 21 carries for 109 yards for Sheffield in the loss.

Starting at $2.99/week.
