Eisenhower beats Iroquois 5-0 in Region 3
ERIE — The Eisenhower Knights won a key Region 3 girls soccer game Wednesday night, shutting out Iroquois 5-0.
Eisenhower’s Lexi Scholar had another hat trick in the win, giving her team the early lead with a goal at the 33-minute mark of the first half when she moved the ball down the middle of the field and found the back of the net from dead center to start the scoring.
Rosalie Rondeau added the next two goals for Eisenhower when she scored her first at the 16-minute mark and the second just three minutes later to make the score 3-0.
The Knights weren’t done just yet. Samantha Childs sent a pass to Scholar, who scored the last Eisenhower goal of the half with just 17 seconds remaining to make it 4-0.
“I thought we played our game tonight,” Eisenhower head coach Faith Johnson said. “We passed well, our communication was great amongst the girls and I thought we got in our drops well, which helped us pace the game.”
Eisenhower’s defense was superb all game as it only allowed only three shots on goal and allowed Eisenhower goalkeeper Tracey Jakubczak to earn the shutout.
Johnson was able to work her reserve players into the game which she hopes will help once playoffs begin.
“Rose Rondeau was able to play several positions in today’s game, which will help her,” Johnson said, “and we were able to get all the girls in the game and get valuable playing time which can only serve to help us later in the season.”
One of those players was Emmie Turbide, who sent a pass to Scholar, who found nothing but net with just 40 seconds remaining in the game to make the final score 5-0.
Eisenhower improved to 9-5-1 overall and, more importantly, 5-4 in Region 3. The Knights are back in action Saturday when they travel to Port Allegany for a 10 a.m. nonregion game.
