Commodore Perry doubles up Youngsville

YOUNGSVILLE — Visiting Commodore Perry used a suffocating first-half press and a dominant second quarter to double up Youngsville 46-23 in Region 2 girls basketball play Thursday at Youngsville High School.

Youngsville actually led by a point after a quarter, but the Panthers responded with a 28-0 advantage in the second stanza to break the game open.

The Eagles trailed 9-4 with a minute remaining in the opening quarter before scoring 6 points in the final 60 seconds to lead by one. Riley Robinault scored 4 of the points during that run and Natalie Ross added a bucket as well.

Robinault’s score with 24 seconds left in the first would be the team’s last points until the 7:20 mark of quarter No. 3.

All 46 of Commodore Perry’s points were scored by freshmen — 17 from Bella Saxe, 16 from Eastin Post and 13 from Evalyn Furey. Robinault led Youngsville with 16 points while Kaylee Lauffenburger added 3 points and Ross and Lilly Jesepersen scored 2 points apiece.

The Eagles return to action Monday when they visit Rocky Grove.

Youngsville honored its six 1,000-point girls basketball scorers during halftime on Thursday. Lindsey (Albaugh) Nyquist and Julie (Nansen) Chase were present for the ceremony. Those unable to attend included Kennedy Cratty, Jennifer Crawford, Allison Renwick and Amy Nansen.
