JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Warren finished ninth out of 26 scoring teams at Friday’s and Saturday’s Southern Tier Wrestling Officials Association (STWOA) Tournament at Jamestown Community College.

Senior Adika Fiscus was the Dragons’ highest placer, coming in second at 131 pounds.

After a bye, Fiscus won by a second-period pin over Sharpsville’s Michael McClearn, then battled to a 2-1 decision over St. Francis’ Kole Haseley in the bracket’s quarterfinals. On Saturday, Fiscus won 15-8 over Boliver-Richburg’s Gary McDowell, “who had tech-falled him two years ago,” according to Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger. In the 131 final, Fiscus fell to Carmine Calimeri from Southwestern, who placed third in New York state last year.

Warren teammate Carter Campbell placed third at 152. He started with two falls to get to the quarters, but lost and headed to the wrestle backs. Campbell had a fall and then decision over teammate Ryan Letko, and another fall in the third-place match to finish 5-2 overall.

“Letko himself had a great weekend with two falls and a bye, getting him to the semifinals,” said Baldensperger. “He had a 45-second fall in the (152) fifth-place match.”

Joey Krall went 3-2 with three falls to finish sixth at 215 pounds.

Freshman Timmy Giger, wrestling as Warren’s second entrant at 139, “had an outstanding tournament,” said Baldensperger. Giger began Friday with a major decision victory, then a loss to the wrestle backs. He won by technical fall, ultimately losing in the 7th-8th-place match.

Losing in the blood rounds were Cameron Williams (2-2 at 139), Conner Zaffino (3-2, 160), and Tyson Harkins (2-2, 285).

“(We) placed ninth without two weight classes represented,” said Baldensperger. “Two years ago, we were second to last. The young Dragons are trending in the right direction.”
