Dragons have 3 girls named all-region in golf

Madeline Walker

Three Lady Dragons — senior Madeline Walker, junior Elissa Errett, and sophomore Kate Shippee — have been named Region 3 (Class 3A) girls golf second-team all-stars.

“It is such an honor and an achievement to have three girls make second-team all-stars in only the second year of the girls golf team competing in the region,” said Warren coach Scott Pearson. “It’s a testament of the hard work each had put in during the regular and off-season. While five players from each team compete in the (region) mega-matches, only the top three scores are counted for the competition, and these three girls accounted for 93.3 percent of the scoring for Warren this year. These girls are very talented and athletic and their great ball-striking enabled them to compete with the best players in the region.”

Walker paced the Dragons’ regular-season scoring with an 18-hole average of 92.75, ranking her eighth in the region. The all-region teams and golfer of the year are based on the scoring averages in each region.

“Her improvement from the prior year was evidence of her hard work she always puts in as her nine-hole region average was vastly improved from a 2023 average of 58.2 to a 2024 average of 46.4, which also garnered her the Most Improvement Award for the girls’ golf team,” said Pearson. “She worked very hard with her parents during the off-season on her short game and it really showed during match play. It was great to see her finish her career with such a solid season while her score counted in the top three in all five matches.”

Shippee is a two-time Region 3 Second-Team All-Star and finished ninth in the region with a scoring average of

Elissa Errett

95.25.

“Her strong work ethic and determination has her tirelessly working on improving all phases of her game to play to the best of her ability,” said Pearson. “This was really evidenced by her impressive ball-striking this year, exemplified by reaching most par fives in two (shots). Her mega-match scores counted for the top three in every match, while her 18-hole average decreased from 2023 to 2024 by almost eight strokes. Her season was also highlighted by her team winning the Bear Cup Championship at Union City and also the internal Steeplechase held at Cable Hollow Golf Course this year. She has really studied the technical nuances of the game and her swing and she has equipped herself with the knowledge to make adjustments during her rounds. I am very happy that she has two years left on the team.”

Errett — in her second year — is making her first appearance as a region all-star selection; she finished 10th in the region with a scoring average of 97.25.

“Elissa is also very dedicated in improving her game and made a dramatic improvement over 2023 (from a nine-hole average of 58.6 to a 48.6),” said Pearson. “Elissa also takes her game very seriously and is very talented and has made great strides, especially after only two years of playing. One under-valued shot that Elissa is adept with is to chip with a fairway wood, which is pretty rare to see anymore. She has very good swing mechanics and is not afraid to put in extra time both in and out of season. I am also very happy that she has another year left to further elevate her game and have a great senior year.”
