Dragons split in the pool with St. Marys
ST. MARYS — Warren split with host St. Marys on Tuesday to open its swim season. The Lady Dragons won 96-82 and, despite being outnumbered, Warren’s boys fell by just 2 points, 53-51, at St. Marys Area High School’s natatorium.
“We had plenty of first-place finishes,” said Warren coach Brandon Gregg, “including Emma Peterson in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle, Drake Niemetz in the 50 and 100-yard free, Gracie Page in the diving competition, Lucy Harrison in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke, Chris Orth in the 100-yard butterfly, Jacob Retterer in the 100-yard backstroke, the men’s 200-yard free relay, and the ladies’ 400-yard free relay.
“With a strong start to the season, we finished our first meet with 15 district-qualifying times and scores,” added Gregg.
Those included: Peterson in the 200 free and 400/500 free; Katie Krogler in the 200 free; Caudill in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke; Orth in the 200 individual medley; Violet Spiegel in the 100 breaststroke; Niemetz in the 50 and 100 free; Page and Kinzlea Chase in diving; Harrison in the 100 fly and 100 back; and Madeline Walker in the 100 backstroke. Warren’s girls 200 medley relay team of Walker, Caudill, Harrison, and Krogler also qualified for districts.
