SHEFFIELD — Youngsville’s killer B’s were buzzing on a Saturday night in Sheffield.

Rylan Benton, Ethan Beers and Braydon Baker combined for 52 of Youngsville’s 55 points in a 55-38 victory over Smethport in the finals of the Sheffield Sports Boosters Holiday Tournament.

With the win, the Eagles are now 6-1 entering 2025 where they will host Forest Area on January 6 at Youngsville High School.

Prior to the game, Benton won the tournament’s three-point contest over teammate Baker. However, it was Baker who came out on fire to start Saturday’s championship game against the Hubbers. Baker canned three first quarter trifectas as the Eagles pulled out to an 18-6 lead after a quarter.

Youngsville’s domination continued into the second quarter as the advantage swelled to 34-12 with 2:25 to play in the second quarter.

Despite the dominant first half, things got a little more interesting than the Eagles would’ve liked in the second half.

One night after scoring 24 points in a win over Sheffield, the Hubbers’ Colin Okerlund came out of the locker room on fire. Okerlund scored 13 of his team-best 24 points during the third quarter.

At the same time, a lid fell tight over the Eagles’ basket as Smethport chipped Youngsville’s lead to just 11 before the third quarter came to a close.

Benton hit a three-pointer with 3:18 to play in the third, but it would be the Eagles’ last field goal for over seven minutes as Smethport crept to as close as seven with 4:43 to go.

After the cold spell, Youngsville’s Benton and Beers combined for 10 points over the next two and a half minutes as the Eagles snapped the cold spell and put together one last push for the tournament championship.

“The boys played well,” said Youngsville coach Jesse Benton. “We had some issues in the third quarter where we couldn’t buy a bucket but we regrouped and learned from it. We have to keep our intensity up and just get a stop and get back at it on offense. Overall, it was a great team effort win.”

Rylan Benton finished with a game-high 27 points with Baker adding 14 and Beers 11.

Benton was named the tournament’s most valuable player after scoring 26 points on Friday in addition to Saturday’s totals. Beers and David Manning were also named to the tournament’s all-tournament team.
