Seymour helps Ike knock off Sheffield
SHEFFIELD — The Eisenhower Knights traveled to Sheffield for a county battle Wednesday night and behind senior Casey Seymour’s 22 points came away with a 61-36 win.
The Knights came out with a pressure defense that created problems for the Wolverines as Seymour had 14 first-quarter points that came off turnovers and Eisenhower led 22-14 after the first quarter. By halftime, the margin grew to 44-18.
Eisenhower came out of the locker room intent on getting some varsity experience to their roster, while some younger players got into the game. Junior Derek Guiher continued his hit shooting from beyond the arc as he finished with 18 points, courtesy of six 3-pointers.
The Wolverines were led by Leshawn Williams who had 12 points.
In junior varsity action, the Knights prevailed 31-29. The Wolverines battled back from 15 points down, but their shot at the buzzer wouldn’t drop. Aamond Bowman of Sheffield led all scorers with 14 points. Eisenhower was led by Gavin Reynolds who had 9 points.
LADY EAGLES FALL
YOUNGSVILLE — Aside from a couple of brief spurts, the Youngsville Lady Eagles largely stuck right with visiting North Clarion during a 52-33 loss Wednesday at Youngsville High School.
For the second straight home contest, Youngsville led after a quarter, using 8 points from Riley Robinault, 4 from Kaylee Lauffenburger and 3 from Kennedy Allen to take a 13-11 lead after the opening eight minutes.
Robinault scored the first bucket of the second stanza a little under a minute in, but it would prove to be the final offensive points of the quarter for Youngsville. The Wolves closed the first half on a 16-0 run and carried a 27-15 edge into halftime.
The third quarter was very much evenly matched with Youngsville holding an 8-7 edge and holding North Clarion without a point for nearly five straight minutes.
Trailing 34-23 entering the final quarter, the Wolves put the game out of reach by starting the final stanza on an 11-2 run.
Robinault led the Eagles with 22 points, Lauffenburger finished with 6 and Allen chipped in 3.
The Lady Eagles return to the court on Thursday when they host Saegertown in region action.
