TIONESTA — Cash Moore’s layup just before time expired extended Youngsville’s perfect start to the season Monday at North Clarion High School in Tionesta.

The Eagles won for the fourth time in as many outings with a 61-59 victory over the Wolves.

Coming off a competitive win over county foe Sheffield on Friday, the Eagles appeared to be well on their way to securing a rather stress-free victory on Monday. Youngsville led by four after a quarter and the lead had swelled to 35-21 by halftime thanks to 16 first-half points from sophomore Rylan Benton and another 13 from junior teammate David Manning.

In the third quarter, the hosts got hot and went to work on chipping away on the double-digit deficit. Benton and Manning were limited to just two points in the third quarter and by the time the fourth got underway, the game was tied at 43-43.

The teams went back-and-forth in the final quarter with Manning connecting on three three-pointers to keep the Eagles in control with a slim lead.

Leading 59-56 and with time winding down, the Eagles committed an ill-timed foul on a three-point attempt from North Clarion’s Logan Bish. Bish stood up to the pressure and knocked down all three free throws to tie the game with four seconds remaining.

With little time to spare, the Eagles inbounded the ball to Braydon Baker who fired a long distance pass up court to Moore who got free and scored the game-winning bucket just before time expired.

Manning led all scorers in the game with 24 points, including four three-pointers. Benton finished with 17 points, Ethan Beers nine, Baker seven and Moore four. North Clarion was led by the 22 points of Bish and 19 points from Hudson Irwin.

After toppling one set of Wolves on the road, Youngsville will look to conquer another set of Wolves on the road Friday when it travels to Kane.
