Steinberg pours in 33 as Knights win again

WATERFORD — If the Eisenhower basketball team was tired from its thrilling 62-59 double-overtime win over Mercyhurst Prep on Friday night, the Knights certainly didn’t show it in their 11 a.m. game against Fort LeBoeuf on Saturday, as they defeated the Bisons 58-34.

Eisenhower jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the opening quarter behind junior Clara Steinberg’s 13 points, including three 3-pointers. The Knights defense, behind Lainey Belcher, Tracey Jakubczak, Samantha Childs and Lainey Font, held the bison to just 7 points.

“They executed the plan perfectly,” Eisenhower head coach D.J. Steinberg said of his team. “They are playing very well with tremendous confidence in each other.”

Eisenhower didn’t let up in the second quarter as it added to its lead and the Knights defense held the home team in check. The lead at halftime grew to 36-15.

The Knights held the Bisons to 21 points in the second half.

Eisenhower was led by Steinberg, who finished with 33 points, seven steals and six assists. Font added 13 points.

Fort LeBoeuf was led by Maggie Lemock’s 19 points.

“Fort LeBoeuf is a big school with a good team. To be off to a 5-1 start is absolutely tremendous,” Steinberg said. “I just can’t say enough about this team and how they play. I’m incredibly proud of each member of this team and how unselfish they are is truly a testament to the character of each of them.”

The Knights’ 5-1 start is the program’s best in 17 years.
