Weekend win
Lady Knights take down Girard 61-23 in Region 3
The Eisenhower Lady Knights picked up an important Region 3 win 61-23 against Girard in a rare Saturday afternoon game.
“The girls came out ready to play,” Eisenhower head coach D.J. Steinberg said. “They played a complete game from start to finish, they really controlled the tempo of the game.”
Eisenhower opened up with a Lainey Font shot for two points and never looked back. Eisenhower opened up a 18-9 first quarter lead behind 3-point baskets by Font and fellow junior Laney Belcher.
The Lady Knights Clara Steinberg and Font drained three pointers in the second quarter to lead Eisenhower to a 36-12 halftime lead.
Coach Steinberg was quick to point out the defensive efforts of junior Laney Belcher, “I thought Lainey played a great game defensively, she is just a shut down defender and an outstanding three point shooter in her own right.”
Eisenhower continued to play outstanding defense in the second half holding the yellow jackets to just 11 points over the final two quarters.
“The girls have been working really hard in practice and their efforts are starting to show on the court,” Coach Steinberg added.
The Lady Knights were led by Clara Steinberg who had 25 points, Font added 12 and Belcher had 10.
Girard was led by Arianna Jenkins who had 6 points.
Eisenhower travels to Seneca tonight for another important region game.
