PHILIPSBURG — Two Lady Dragons earned medals on Saturday at the Lady Mountie Invitational Girls Wrestling Tournament at Philipsburg-Osceola High School.

Kaelon Connolly was second and Abbie Darr third for Warren’s girls wrestling team (Warren-Eisenhower co-op), which placed eighth in the 17-team field. This was the second competition of the season for the Lady Dragons.

At 136, Connolly opened with a first-period pin over Clearfield’s Alara Quickel. She added another pin in the championship semifinals — in 3:41 over Huntington’s Noelle Rasmovicz. She suffered a technical fall in the final to Philipsburg-Osceola’s Charlotte Hunt.

Darr, up 7-0, pinned Shaler’s Charlotte Paladin to take third at 190. She pinned Curwensville’s Emily Neeper in 4:30 in the quarterfinals before getting pinned in the semifinals by Bedford’s Noelle Murray to move to the third-fourth match.

Kita Nelson (130) and Emily Wiles (142) each finished fourth in their respective weight classes.

“This was some of the best wrestling the girls have done yet,” said Warren coach Madison Hollenbeck. “We still have things to work on. The girls have a chip on their shoulder. They wrestle with grit. There is no one in the room not giving 100% at any time. We finally have everyone back in the lineup after Kita and Madilyn (Dikun) being out with injuries. This is an exciting time for the girls. I’m glad I can be in their corner every weekend.”

Warren’s junior high wrestling team placed 11th in a 14-team field.

Alliesun Woodin took fourth on the day, finishing 2-2.

Chloe Wiles scored her first win of the season. Down 17-3 going into the third period and taking top, she ended up pinning her opponent.

The Lady Dragons will be back on the mat on Saturday at the Bald Eagle Invitational at Bald Eagle Area High School.

Starting at $2.99/week.
