Warren Unified Bocce wins in golden frame
WATTSBURG — For the second time this season, the WAHS Unified Bocce team won in the golden frame tiebreaker, this time on Monday at Seneca High School.
With Seneca fielding a split squad, Warren won the first game, 5-3, lost the second, 1-5, and then won 2-0 in the golden frame.
“We started off strong in game one, putting up 1 point, 1 point and 3 points in the first 3 frames,” said Warren coach Cayla Leichtenberger. “Seneca came back to score 3 in frame 4, but we walked away with a 5-3 win.
“Game 2, our team attempted a comeback but fell 6-1 against Seneca team 2, forcing us to overtime,” she said. “Our golden frame, we started behind. Eric Irons had a fantastic spock to get their ball further away from the pallina, resulting in a win.”
Irons was joined by the usual starters, Jacob Elmquist, Sophie Walker, Leo Westover, Sophia Fromknecht, Sammy White, Ella Getner, and Keely Southworth.
“Overall, we had a great match today,” said Leichtenberger. “Seneca had a great comeback to force us to overtime. Our team stayed relaxed and walked away with the win.”
Warren’s last match is this Thursday at home against Corry with a 6:15 p.m. start.
“We are hoping to pack the stands and would love support from our school and county community,” said Leichtenberger.
