CORRY — Chase Sitler had 29 points and Lucas Thrift 18 in the Warren boys basketball team’s dominating 81-49 Region 5 win over Corry on Tuesday at Corry Area High School.

Thrift had the team’s first 6 points with two 3-pointers and Sitler scored 10 points, including two 3s, in the Dragons’ 20-10 opening quarter. Sitler had 17 points by halftime, while Thrift and Logan Crissey added 6 points apiece in the second quarter for an 18-point advantage.

“Once we were able to get them out of their 1-3-1 (zone) with some hot outside shooting early, as well as Chase driving through their zone, I thought we could take advantage of Grady (Corey) and Lucas’s matchups in the post,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine. “The guys did a good job getting them touches.”

Corry kept pace with a 17-17 third quarter, but Sitler scored 8 more points in the first half of the fourth quarter to help put the game out of reach. Teammate Allen Eaton hit two 3-pointers and Colin Zdarko added 5 points as the game would wind down.

“Leihden (Wotorson), Chase and Logan did an outstanding job tonight defensively on their three guards,” said Berdine, whose Dragons are 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the region. “I really thought we got after them early in this game defensively, took them out of what they wanted to do. They normally shoot the ball very well from the outside and I thought we did a very good job taking them out of that early, contesting shots and limiting them to one shot, and creating some turnovers for easy buckets.”

Kamdyn Moon led Corry (10-5, 3-4) with 11 points (2 in the second half), and Nick Scouten had two field goals and 8 points.

Eight Dragons scored, including Crissey with 9, Grady Corey’s four buckets for 8 points, and Wotorson distributed the ball to everyone on the court from point guard.
