With a fundraiser to support the fight against cancer at the forefront, Warren won five of the first six matches and the last four for the Region 3 victory.

“Senior Conner Zaffino, back from his sickness, got things started on the mat for the Dragons,” said Baldensperger, whose Dragons are 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the region.

Bumping up to 172 after missing his team’s senior night ceremony, he made short work of his young Ike opponent with a quick takedown and back points before grabbing the fall.

In a back-and-forth match at 189 pounds, Eisenhower’s Bryce Wilkins eventually caught Sebastian Oyola for a second-period pin.

Leading 12-6, Warren would receive pins from Joey Krall (215), Tyson Harkins (heavyweight), and Cole Fitzgerald (107) to build a commanding lead at 30-6.

Ike’s standout sophomore, Rever Caudill, earned a quick pin at 114 to move to 19-6 on the season. After a forfeit win for Eisenhower, Griffin Williams earned the Knights’ second pin in three matches to cut the deficit to 30-24.

“Next up, a match of leaders on their respective teams — Adika Fiscus versus Ryan Chambers,” said Baldensperger.

Fiscus grabbed four takedowns in the first period and pinned the Knight in the second at 133 pounds. That started a string of four Warren wins to end the match.

Cam Williams’ pin at 139 preceded two Warren forfeit wins and three in the match.

“It’s nice to have all these kids out,” said Baldensperger, “gives us some flexibility.”

Eisenhower is 1-10 overall and 1-4 in the region.
