Eagles lose final home wrestling match
YOUNGSVILLE — Well over 50 years ago, Youngsville wrestled its first varsity home wrestling match against Corry.
During a 72-0 setback to the Beavers on Tuesday, the Eagles came full circle.
Just 24 hours after the Warren County School District voted to close Youngsville High School at the conclusion of this school year, the Eagles hosted a dual match for the final time in school history.
The outcome wasn’t what the Eagles would’ve liked as all matches ended in the first period. However, the Youngsville gym was packed to near capacity with a faithful crew in red and white cheering the Eagles on.
Corry picked up three forfeit victories, six technical falls and four pins on its way to victory.
Despite the varsity loss, Youngsville’s junior high wrestlers — who had the future looking bright for the program — earned a dual match victory over Corry prior to the start of varsity competition.
The Eagles won’t have to wait long for the chance to erase the sour taste of defeat from their mouths. Youngsville travels to Titusville today.
