Eisenhower girls get by Girard

GIRARD — The Eisenhower girls basketball team improved its record to 14-2 overall and 6-2 in Region 3, downing Girard 56-42 Friday night.

Clara Steinberg led the way with 26 points, Laney Belcher added 12 and Lainey Font chipped in 11 for the Knights, who erupted for 35 points in the second half to break open a tight game.

Leading only 8-6 after the first quarter, Eisenhower began to heat up as Steinberg hit a pair of 3-pointers and Font added another to push the Knights lead to 21-17 at the half.

Belcher and Steinberg each had 5 points in the third quarter and an aggressive defense allowed Eisenhower to outscore Girard 17-11 to increase its lead to 38-28.

Leah Pratt led Girard with 12 points, while teammate Aub Scott had 10.

“It wasn’t our best game of the season,” Knights head coach D.J. Steinberg said. “We had quite a few turnovers and Girard was shooting very well. We have some things to work on before our Senior Night game on Monday against Seneca.”
